Jakarta is an enormous city. Finding good places to eat - outside of malls and office buildings - can be a bit daunting. As always, local knowledge is gold and so we were lucky enough to find some great places on our last trip there.
Omah Sendok is the name of a great little place we found in the Sudirman district of central Jakarta. A growing trend in Jakarta is to convert former residences into restaurants along the busier roads, and the environment in these places is really nice. Read more…
The village of Senaru
On Lombok island in Indonesia you’ll find one of the most magical rural villages. Senaru lies at the foot of Gunung (Mount) Rinjani, Indonesia’s second highest mountain. This village snakes its way along the only road leading to the base camp of the mountain - houses, orchards and rice paddies line the road until you get close to the base camp where the houses begin to make way for guest houses and small hotels. Sindang Gila and Tiu Kelep
Close to Senaru are two beautiful waterfalls, Sindang Gila and Tiu Kelep. Sindang Gila is the first waterfall where water drops from an impressive height into a river and bathing area. Popular with locals for bathing, Sindang Gila is a beautiful spot for a picnic or just an afternoon relaxing. Getting right under the waterfall is a real challenge and can be a cheap way to get a tissue deep massage! Read more…
